Use of Egg Yolk Antibodies to Predict Optimal Age of Vaccination Against Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) in Broilers

چکیده
Collecting sera from new-born chicks requires their sacrifice, which is an invasive and little economic method of sampling. We studied the possibility of replacing the antibody titres in serum of chicks by those in pre-incubated egg yolk for determining the optimal Age of Vaccination (OAV) against Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) by the Deventer formula. The study focused on 10 hyper-immunized broiler-breeder flocks. Yolk of pre-incubated eggs and sera of newborn chicks, originated from the same parent flock, were essayed by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) to detect IBDV specific Maternally Derived Antibodies (MDA). ELISA titres in both types of samples were similar (p<0.05) and well correlated (r = 0.74, p<0.05). The difference between the two vaccination age estimations, based on egg yolk and serum antibodies respectively, was minimal (less than one day). This difference was independent of parent breeder-flock age (r = 0.04, p>0.05 NS). These results encourage the use of egg yolk in predicting the OAV against IBD instead of sera from sacrificed chicks.

Passive immunization using purified IgYs against infectious bursal disease of chickens in Pakistan
Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is an acute and highly contagious disease of young chickens caused by Birnavirus. Mortality of infected birds can be best prevented if injected with antibodies. The present study was an attempt to raise specific hyper-immune polyclonal antibodies against IBD virus in Pakistan. Commercial layers divided into four groups were injected with IBD vaccine subcutaneousl...

Increased susceptibility of birds to avian pathogens in intensive husbandry system has emphasized on necessity of improvement of innate and specific immune responses of birds by the fast establishment of a beneficial microflora and immune stimulator factors to guarantee healthy and low-price products. During this study, 192 one-day-old broiler chicks (Ross-380) in four groups with three replica...
متن کاملComparison of Pathogenicity and Serologic Response of Four Commercial Infectious Bursal Disease Live Vaccines.
Various commercial vaccines for immunization of broiler chickens against infectious bursal disease (IBD) are available, so it would be appropriate to compare the pathogenicity and immune response of chickens to these vaccines. In this study the pathogenicity and serologic response of four IBD vaccines, cloned D78®, Bursine-2®, Bursimune® and Cevac Gambo-L®, were evaluated in specific pathogen f...
